The first meeting of the Working Group on “Improving the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan” of the Commission on Business Environment and International Rankings of the Republic of Azer

On December 15, the first meeting of the Working Group on “Improving the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan” of the Commission on Business Environment and International Rankings of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication. The working group was established on the initiative of The Center for Legal Examination and Legislative Initiatives.

The meeting was attended by Vusal Shikhaliyev, Head of the Secretariat of the Commission, the leadership of the working group, responsible officials from the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Baku Court of Appeal, and other state bodies (institutions), as well as representatives of universities, law firms, non-governmental organizations, attorneys, and civil law experts.

Opening the meeting with an introductory speech, Vusal Shikhaliyev, Head of the Secretariat of the Commission, stated that improving the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is the chief and most fundamental legislative act regulating economic relations, including business activities in our country, will significantly contribute to improving the business environment in the country and the position of the Republic of Azerbaijan in several international rankings.

Subsequently, leading the meeting, Samir Mahmudov, Head of the Working Group and Executive Director of The Center for Legal Examination and Legislative Initiatives, emphasized that modernizing the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan to meet the requirements of the contemporary era, as well as improving it by taking progressive foreign experience into account, is one of the crucial steps taken towards increasing the favorability of the business and investment in our country and ensuring progressive regulation in this field.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the action plan of the working group for 2024, and it was agreed to initially prepare a concept document on the improvement of the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan during that year.
