The next quarterly meeting of the “Tax and Accountability” Working Group has been held

The next quarterly meeting of the “Tax and Accountability” Working Group, led by the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy within the Commission on Business Environment and International Ratings, has been held. Members of the working group, representatives of relevant government institutions, and private sector representatives participated in the event.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the work carried out in the first quarter, the results achieved, and the measures planned for the upcoming period within the framework of the 2026 Roadmap for the implementation of improvements and communication measures related to the “Taxation” indicator of the World Bank Group’s “Business Ready” report.

Head of the “Tax and Accountability” Working Group and Deputy Head of the State Tax Service, Ilkin Valiyev, delivered a speech and provided information on the implementation status of the Roadmap. It was noted that new measures in relevant areas had been identified in the Roadmap to further improve the business environment.

Head of the Secretariat of the Commission and Sector Head at the Department for Economic Policy and Industrial Issues of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vusal Shikhaliyev, emphasized the importance of the reforms being implemented to improve the business environment, increase transparency, and strengthen Azerbaijan’s position in international rankings.

Within the framework of the meeting, information was presented on the reform measures envisaged in the Roadmap. Discussions focused on issues such as improving the pre-filing mechanism for the “Simplified Tax Declaration” for micro-entrepreneurs, applying this approach to VAT declarations, enabling online completion of VAT declaration annexes, expanding services on the electronic portal and mobile application, improving desk tax audits, as well as transitioning to a proactive model through prior notification of taxpayers regarding electronic discrepancies.

Suggestions voiced by private sector representatives and experts were heard, and an exchange of views was held on improving tax administration and achieving the targets defined in the Roadmap.

At the end of the meeting, the importance of timely and effective implementation of the measures envisaged in the Roadmap was emphasized, and the significance of continuing coordinated activities among the members of the working group was noted. It was also stated that cooperation with business consulting companies regarding innovations in the field of taxation would continue.
